Poetry, swing, and literary memory: KORA GREEN CITY joins the International “Poetas en Mayo” Festival once again
Kora Green City joins the International Poetry Festival of Vitoria-Gasteiz with two public events on May 15 and 24
El edificio Passivhaus con mayor capacidad alojativa de Europa acogerá dos actividades abiertas al público los días 15 y 24 de mayo, en el marco del Festival Internacional de Poesía de Vitoria-Gasteiz.
Since its creation in 2012, the International Poetry Festival Poets in May / Poetak Maiatzean has transformed Vitoria-Gasteiz into a stage for words, with activities that bring poetry closer to diverse audiences: children, elderly people, students, shopkeepers, or those at risk of exclusion. Directed by poet Elisa Rueda and organized by the association Hunkitu Arte, the festival weaves connections through literature across different spaces in the city.
On May 15 and 24, Kora Green City will host three free events in its spaces The Lounge and The Patio, with proposals that combine poetry, art, and dance.
- Gabriela Mistral: Poetry, Legacy, and Educational Revolution | May 15 at 17:00h
The first event will be led by poet and artist Marina Tapia, who will direct a workshop focused on the figure of Gabriela Mistral—Nobel Prize in Literature and pioneer in education across Latin America. The session will explore the life, work, and thinking of this influential Chilean writer through readings of poems, illustrated texts, and shared reflections.Participants will also be invited to experiment with writing recados, a short poetic prose format cultivated by Mistral and widely featured in the press of her time. This workshop is designed to bring this great poet closer to a broad audience through discovery and personal creation. Admission is free but requires prior registration.

- Fermín Herrero: Roots, Landscape, and Eastern Poetry | May 15 at 19:00h
This recital explores the work of poet Fermín Herrero, deeply connected to the Sorian region of Tierras Altas and his hometown, Ausejo de la Sierra. The event will also touch on his engagement with Eastern poetic forms, present in titles such as La lengua de las campanas or Húrgura. Free access until full capacity is reached. - Poetic Vermouth with Swing | May 24 at 12:30h
The second event is an open-air celebration that blends rhythm, verse, and community. Kora Green City will host a Poetic Vermouth with Swing, in collaboration with the Paso Triple dance academy, which will bring music and movement to the day with various performances interspersed with short recitals by local poets from Vitoria.
With a maximum of 40 available spots, this literary and musical gathering is designed for all audiences, offering a lively and welcoming atmosphere. Free access until full capacity is reached.
The program will feature three swing performances by Paso Triple, interwoven with poetic readings that give voice to the city through emotion, irony, and tenderness. The event will close with an open mic session for those wishing to share their own verses or dance improvisations.
Through initiatives like these, Kora Green City strengthens its commitment to a different way of living and traveling: a conscious experience that blends culture, sustainability, and local connection. Supporting poetry, art, and citizen participation is a way of engaging with the environment, showcasing local talent, and actively contributing to the cultural development of Vitoria-Gasteiz.
